Every year a “Feeding The Spirit - The Sea Master” holiday is held in Sakhalin town – Poronaysk.

“Feeding The Spirit - The Sea Master” is a traditional ceremonial holiday of small indigenous groups of Sakhalin, which is celebrated every summer before salmon fishing season starts. In order for the season to be successful, the elders make offerings – specially cooked food – to the spirit of the sea.

Apart from offerings, the program of the holiday is quite diverse: from different contests (best-built hut, archery contest, fish dressing, wrestling etc.) to souvenir selling, taste of traditional dishes and ensemble performance.
