Kasatka Bay

Kasatka Bay is located at the pacific coastline of the biggest island of a string of Kuril Islands – Iturup Island.

On November 26, 1941, Japanese aircraft carrier battle group and Japanese escort ships met at the harbor at the pacific coastline of the island (Hitokappu Bay, nowadays known as Kasatka Bay) to get ready for strike for Pearl Harbor. The crew found out about the purpose of their crusade only here and they became so enraptured so they began aimlessly fire at the island.

The Japanese naval base with airfield was located at the shore.

This place is also known as Devil’s Cliff, where Japanese digged a tunnel through the rock for a pass-through. The tunnels are still standing, and during the excursion, the tourists will have a chance to visit them and go through the rock.
